Hi, I am trying, without any luck, to install the HP Photosmart 1115 printer to my Windows XP system. I downloaded the latest drivers (12/01) and installed per instructions. The installation appears to go well. However, when you try to print the test page nothing happens. You cannot access printer "properties" or "preferences" through the control panel or any application. There is a very brief (1/4 sec) flash of what must be the "preferences" screen and it returns to the main printer window. If you click print, nothing happens. I exchanged the printer and have the same problem with the new one. I have disabled all background programs, including Virus Scan.
I truly appreciate any help.

How is your printer connected? USB or parallel port? Do you have other HP Photosmart devces such as their photo scanner? If so, see Message 12698 further down the page.

John try this,1-uninstall your hp. 2-reboot, see if xp will recognize it. 3- if you are missing any bells & whistles use the software that came with your hp. *Note don't use your hp software till xp recognizes printer. Worked with my hp scanner, hp printer, and fuji digital camera.
Happy with xp.

Got a message saying "there was a problem installing this hardware (Access denied)" I researched over a years worth of reports in news groupswith no help...this fixed the problem...do a TOTAL reinstall of Windows XP and I am not sure but I think that it gets rid of some of the clutter in the Registry and gets rid of hardware that is conflicting with the printer...I am up and running and I am going to spend some time spreading this info, since no one could help me.After doing this just remember that you will have to reload all of your software so that the registry will recognise the product and allow it to work
