Comment:

I just recently purchased a new 256mb RAM chip for my computer. It works by itself in both RAM slots. So does the other 256m that was already in there. But when I put both of them in together Windows won't start up. I tried to reinstall Windows XP with both the RAM chips in, but then it tells me it can't reinstall because my BIOS needs to be updated. I've tried to update my BIOS, but there is no setting for Windows XP; only Windows 98/2000 and "other." Which neither have worked. I don't think its an issue with the BIOS. I think that's just the only answer it can give. Any suggestions?

The New Ram is not compatible with the old.

Go to

Run the System Scanner to get the specs on what RAM is compatible with your system, and how multiple DIMMs' need to be configured on your motherboard.

You will probably find that you need to match the original Ram, so don't get them confused.

There is nothing to learn from someone who already agrees with you.
