Hi,

I have a HP CD-Writer Plus 7510 external parallel port cd burner that I can't get working under XP (it works fine under Windows 98). I am using the HP XP drivers, but XP tells me it can't load the drivers. Has anyone got one of these burners working under XP, or knows how to get one working? Although HP say the drivers are XP, they are named as if they are Windows 2000 drivers, so maybe this is the problem?
Thanks.

some win2000 drivers do work with xp.
you should delete your cd drive from device manager, restart and switch power on for CDrw and let it detect as a new hardware, when it asks for driver point it towards downloaded win2000 driver.HTH

Hi Chris, I had the same problem with my
HP 7200e in XP. Somewhere I found a posting and a site to download WinXP_LPT_Driver.exe
and after I run it XP opend the LPT port for other than just printers. This could be also
your problem. I don't know the site, one I
find it I will post it here.
Bye for now.

Hi Peter,

That's the drivers Windows XP can't load for some reason. What have you got your parallel port set to? Mine is set to ECP, IRQ 7, i/o 378.

Thanks,

Chris

Ok, I finally got it working. I simply changed the parallel port from ECP to EPP in the BIOS, using the drive's preferred settings of i/o 378 & irq 7 (no dma - thanks to Peter for providing his settings to me) & when I booted into XP, the drive was detected & I just pointed it to the folder the drivers had been unzipped to, which it then installed. Now all I have to do is to get my printer & scanner working with a non ECP parallel port! ;-)
