Ok,
I thought I'd try and see if I can get some resolution here to the problem I've been dealing with for the past two days and HP tech support has no idea what is wrong!!!..thats what they call "award winning tech support" anyways here is the problem:
Purchased the HP m7287c multimedia center PC 2 days ago. upon hooking up the computer, monitor, wirless keyboard and mouse, printer, scanner, speakers, wireless internet connection...once i booted up everything was fine UNTIL I powered off the computer and waited about 30 min. and powered it back on the computer froze on the initial startup screen where it gives the option to press f10 etc to enter the bios...I unplug everything and only connect the monitor and switch the mouse and keyboard to wire cable keyboard and mouse to their ports on the back of the pc. then press the power button on the PC for 1 minute with the power cable disconnected from the outlet..after the 1 minute I plug the pc back in and press the power button and it boots up fine. If I try and shutdown completely again with the non-wireless mouse and keyboard it will freeze up on the startup screen again. What could be causing the problem????? another thing I wanted to mention is that when I get the darn thing to boot up completely it always says "Found new hardware" "Multimedia Video Controller" only to find that it can not locate the driver and is labeled with a question mark in teh device manager????? Im not sure if this may be the problem or not... I have a ATI Radeon x600 graphics card. Any help will GREATLY be appreciated...thanks!!!
Mario

That could be the problem. You should have a driver disk that came with your PC. You need to put that CD into your CDROM drive and then load that driver for your video card from the CD.
Hope this helps

I checked all the cd's that came with the computer (2cds) and no CD drivers. In my device manager it says "Multimedia Video Controller" no driver installed, I can't seem to find it anywhere or know what it is... I have a flat panel monitor that's connected to the DVI connection on the back of the PC and chose not to use the VGA connection.... I have the radeon x600 and the TV tuner connection also but not sure what brand it is.... in the device manager it does not give what is the "Multimedia Device Controller" is or who the manufacturer is....any help will be appreciated..

If you can't find the driver on any of your CD's then I would use this to properly identify the device. It comes with a feature that will search the internet for the correct driver.
Hope this helps

hello,
Thanks for the quick reply, i've been pulling out my hair over the past 2 days tryin to figure out my computer..I'm afraid to turn it off in fear it will freeze up again on boot... I downloaded the program you suggested and I'm not sure I missed it or what but I dont see anywhere in the program after it scans my computer..i dont see anywhere where it says "Other Devices/Multimedia Video Controller" like it shows in my device manager.... I did how ever find one listing in the program results that read "multimedia video controller(unknown) and then it gives a few listing under that title...here is what it shows:
Multimedia Video Controller [Unknown]
Chip: Conexant Inc (Was: Globespan, ICompression Inc) iTVC16/CX23416 MPEG Codec
Detail
Chip
iTVC16/CX23416 MPEG Codec
Chip Vender
Conexant Inc (Was: Globespan, ICompression Inc)
Device
Multimedia Video Controller
PnpID
VEN_4444&DEV_0016&SUBSYS_DEF967DB&REV_01
hope this makes sense or you can find out anything on it....everything works fine on the computer..the monitor is working fine..the only issue i have is on shutdown completely and turning back on the computer freezes up and I have to shut down again, unplug the power..hold the power button down for 1 minute and then reboot..Thanks again!!!!

Hi,
Thanks for all your help, trust me i really do appreciate it.. I downloaded the driver and unzipped the files to a folder, i went to device manager clicked on Other Devices and clicked the question marked title "Multimedia Viceo Controller" selected "update driver" and used install from specified folder, i selected the folder that I unzipped which had 6 different folder and I tried every folder and got the same results "Unable to install new hardware cannot find software"....I have no idea what is going on....I know it's not much but i would pay 25.00 for anyone who could find a solution to this matter.... thats what HP wants to charge me to ship the PC to them to figure out what it is wrong...
Thanks,
Mario
