HP LaserJet 1000 Won't Print To Compaq CQ2103WM

November 15, 2012 at 16:05:41
Specs: Windows XP, 139GB Hard Drive

I have a Compaq CQ2103WM computer running Windows XP Home, my home network's host computer, and a HP LaserJet 1000 printer. A RootKit infection was found and cleaned, during the infection my printer stopped printing from my host computer. I uninstalled and reinstalled the printer software from the original disk. I also downloaded the driver from HP's website. The following message appears: "Please insert the Compact Disk labeled "USB disk" into your CD-ROM drive [E\:] and then click OK." and "Problem with USB Hub or connection. I tried changing the USB ports and added a new hub. I also changed the Device Manager's Power Management at USB Root Hub, then reinstalled software from the disk and got this message: "The driver installation file for this devise is missing a necessary entry. This may be because the INF was written for Windows 95 or later. Contact your hardware vendor." The computer will print to my HP All-In-One if I attach the USB cable directly from the computer to that printer. Any suggestions as to what I should try next?

You may need to remove all remnants of the old printer drivers. I suggest you Google the phrase "HP printer driver removal tool". There are different versions and I don't know which you need. You may wish to download and save ALL the computer drivers from the link below. Some of those HP removal tools may remove more than you want.

The first link below is for your computer. Download the WinXP chipset drivers and install them.

The second link to for the printer drivers.

I haven't been able to find a printer driver removal tool for my HPLaserJet 1000 printer. Several tools came up when I did a search but I cannot tell if any of them were for my printer. I also have an HPOfficeJet 4500 installed and working, will the removal tool delete or partially delete files for this printer as well? I tried using driver installation file from one of HP links you gave me but it still asked for the "USB disk". I searched and uninstalled the original driver for the laserjet and tried to reinstall from the original disk and got this message:"An installation support file: "C:\DOCUME~1\HP_ADM~1\LOCALS~1\Temp\{975c8028-51d8-44a9-9585-82e9810fe96a}\Driver_Install.dll" Access is denied" OK.

Using the wrong file will not harm your computer. It just won't remove the HP drivers.

Try any/all the above and/or below files. You will need to install the HP productivity software as well as the driver.
