Specs: Windows XP Professional
So i use an old hp dc7700 at work and some
idiot tried to change my resolution which led to
a black screen with "input signal out of range
-change resoultion to 1280x1040- 60hz".
Problem is, i cant get into anything to change
the resolution. restarting doesnt help, safe
mode doesnt help, it all just goes straight to
the black screen with the message. Annoying
right. Anybody know how to fix this? Google is
failing me.

This is a tricky scenario, it happened to me and was a headache...

When you start up your computer, did you try these things in safe mode? (Go to start>control panel> device manager > display adapter. Uninstall the display adapter and restart the computer. ) Or does the black screen with the "out of range" come on even in safe mode?

If that doesn't work, you MAY have to hook up a monitor that supports the resolution your display adapter was changed to, and change it back...if you have another monitor to use.

Figured it out. Had to hit F8 and choose "VGA Enable' or 'Enable
VGA' cant remember what exactly but that worked and i just
logged in and change the screen resolution
