I am having problems installing the driver for this device to use it as a printer. When it is plugged in Windows detects the pronter, but as a different device than what the manual says it should be detected as. Windows calls it "Generic IEEE 1284.4 printing support" The manual says it will be either "DOT4 USB Printing support" or "Hewlett-Packardhp-digital-copier color series". I tell windows to look for the driver on the disc but it says that the driver isn't on the disc, and HP doesn't offer the driver for download, it just has a link to order another CD. Any suggestions? Thanks.

is there a setup utility on the disk ... the driver might be 'archived' and will be extracted/installed during the setup process.
Today's subliminal thought is: 'Calm down ... it's only ones and zeros.'

Installing the software in Windows XP
0. Complete the hardware setup for your HP Digital Copier Printer 610.
1. Plug in the power cord and turn on the power.
2. Insert the software CD into your computer’s CD-ROM drive.
Using the USB cable that came with your copier, connect your copier to your computer. The Found New Hardware Wizard will appear.
3. Select Install the software automatically and click Next. Windows will search for the driver. This may take five minutes or more.
Windows will locate the driver and begin install the software automatically. When the installation is complete, a Completing the Found New Hardware Wizard message will display.
4. Click Finish. A balloon in the system tray informs you that the copier is ready to use.A printer icon will also appear in the Printer folder (accessed by clicking Start, then Printers and Faxes.)
The above seems self explanatory enough that you shouldn't have problems unless, the install disc and the printer does not match.
What is in your device manager at this time?

I had tried to install the driver several times using that procedure listed.
The device manager listed Generic IEEE 1284.4 printing support under the other devices category. After a closer look I noticed categories named: Generic IEEE 1284.4 printing support and DOT4 USB Printing support with the printer icon. I deleted these devices and re-tried the installation and it worked. Thanks for the help, though!
