I'm having intermittant problems with printing on my HP 5550 printer. This hasn't happened to me, I just get to work on restoring printing when it has gotten into this weird state. What happens is that the printer will start printing like one or two lines of garbage per page, and then continue to do this for many pages. This is from printing from MS IE6 and MS Word, as I've been told.
When I look at the system, the printer has been turned off (to stop using up the paper), and there is a print job in the queue that has "printing" as it's state. My first reaction is to cancel the print job, which I do, and the state changes to "deleting". However, the "deleting" never completes. If I restart the system, the same job will be in the print queue, now marked "printing" again.
The printing software seems to need to finish printing the garbage, and then the bad print job will finally be gone out of the queue and printing will work for days or weeks until it screws up again.
What I've tried, aside from cancelling the problem print jobs is to remove the printer, download a new printer driver from HP, and reinstall with that driver. This "fixed" the problem until it screwed up again in the same way a few days later. So doing this really does not seem to have fixed the basic problem, whatever that is.
Any ideas what might be going on here, or how to fix this? This is mystifying and frustrating. I should be able to cancel these print jobs, but they shouldn't be going into garbage mode in the first place. I don't know if this is an XP printing problem, a driver problem, or a printer problem at this point, so am really puzzled.
Thanks.

Sorry, I should have mentioned that the printer is connected via the parallel port. I can't think of any other background information that would help at the moment.
Thanks.

We're having similar problems here. We've suggested to users that they switch to a USB connection, but that doesn't seem to solve the problem.
Have you had any responses to your problem?
thank you.

I have this same problem running Windows ME with an HP psc 2210xi. Don't have a solution. Just wanted to let you know it is not specific to XP or your priner model.
