hp computer password won't work

Specs: Windows XP
Was trying to turn on my wireless radio on my HP elitebook laptop so it would pick up my network at home. It's my work computer and doesn't run on wireless at work, gets hooked up direct to the network via a lan cable. I changed a setting in Network Settings that, as best as I can remember, said it was changing from a work setting where it hooks up to a network to a home computer setting where it would login direct. It prompted me to reset afterward and now it won't take my password/login name. It just keeps telling me to check my password and loginname/domain which I am 100% is right since I've been using the same login/password to login for weeks. I'm at a loss of what to do and not sure how popular I'll be with the IT guys at work if I format this puppy and undo 2 weeks of intermittent scheduled maintenance to get all sorts of unique work programs. Any other suggestions?

I would think the safest bet would be to own up to the IT guys at work and get them to fix it... unless of course you were doing something that you should not have been doing. Hopefully someone here will help you (if they can).
