Hi, I have searched the net constantly over the past few days to find an answer to this problem but I have had no success. I was recently given a computer to fix and clean up to give to a school only problem is that it has a power-on password to get into the bios, windows, even to simply boot from the cd rom drive. I am working on a HP Compaq nx6310 laptop, I have tried unplugging the CMOS battery about 4 times, the longest time I have left it unplugged is about 15 minutes. I have tried every password that I can find on the net. Sadly I do not know the BIOS provider as it doesn't show it on bootup, only showing the HP logo before going to the power-on password screen. I have found other sites that say there is some code it gives you after failing the password three times, I get no code only some weird symbol. Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

Go back to the person that donated it and get the password. There is no way to clear it otherwise except by the manufacturer. They will require proof of ownership and charge a fee.
