hp 600 officejet trouble in xp

hi

i can not get my computer to recognize my printer. worked fine in 98. i only have a com1 port. i have tried the hp drivers from their site as well. printer comes on, and everything is fine with it but it wont print. tried numerous drivers form xp as well.

any info would be gretly appreciated.

When you say COM1, are you actually using the 25-pin Parallel port on the back of your PC?
Check Device Manager, make sure you don't have any conflicts with LPT1, which is the 25-pin port on your computer.

yup, using the 25 pin port.

under device manager in "ports" i only have a com1 port/communications port. nothing else.

xp has NEVER found "new hardware" with this printer.

try to install with add new hardware then install manually and selected the drivers you have downloaded.

check your BIOS setting to make sure your parallel port is active. Some motherboard's will allow Windows to auto detect a printer that is attached to the parallel port, depending.
