I have a HP 4P Scanner that uses an adapter card (SCSI?)plugs into an ISA port. I have a duron 650mhz processor 512 memory. I looked on HP and MS web pages and they both say not supported for XP. When I boot up xp it never sees the scanner. I like this big heavy duty 11x17 scanner. Do I have to buy a new one? Works well with win98se.

Hello Phil:
The 4P is an old scanner and SCSI as well. I have one somewhere here.
Anyway, HP will never provide drivers and that's understandable. We can't expect manufacturers to write drivers for legacy hardware years after it was released. Before anyone flames me, try going to the local Ford dealer and buying an interior trim part for a 59 Edsel.
Volvo used to make all parts for all of their cars available by order within 3 business days for anything up to 20 years old. Have not checked on my '71 1800E lately but am guessing they may have changed the policy. Every corporation must answer to stockholders and the bottom line these days.
You also may not expect to see any third party software publishers writing drivers either.
Your best bet is to either do a dual boot with 98 & XP, or better yet buy a cheap PC that will run 98 and network it to the XP box. You should be able to do that for $100 if you hunt.
Happy Holidays!

Never give up - there is always a way. A reply in another forum advised trying the web site for LSI Logic which offers Windows 2000 drivers for the SCSI card in question. Worked for me. www.lsilogic.com/support Look for the HP Drivers link. I believe the file you need is hpisadrv.zip

I bought an Adaptec USBXchange cable and converted the scanner from SCSI to USB. Xp recognized it as a 4P and I use the MS provided software to scan. Even the ADF works fine. Adaptec's USBXchange cost about $63.00 US retail, or can be ordered online at various sites for a few bucks less--I've even seen them on Ebay.
