Specs: Windows XP
I have a HP ProBook 4310s with Windows XP. I recently installed some Windows updates and restarted as requested by the Windows Installer. I was plugged into an external projector at this time (not sure if that matters).

Upon starting up the HP Invent screen comes up and then the screen goes black and we go back to the HP Invent screen. I can't restart in Safe Mode, Last Known Good Configuration, or any of the other F8 options. I ran the BIOS System Diagnostics like Start-Up test, Run-In Test, and Hard Disk test and everything is working fine.

I have some data I need to get off the computer. What is my best option?

Do a repair install of XP. One of your system files is corrupted....
