HP 1000 Printer on Win 2000/XP systems

I am writing in regards to Windows XP support for the HP 1000 Photosmart printer. I have a Windows XP system connecting to a Windows 2k system over a network. The HP Photosmart is setup on the Win 2k system to which I can print from any host n the network. I tried configuring Win XP to connect to the shared printer, but I got an error that the drivers weren't compatible. Then I downloaded the latest Win 2000/XP drivers from your web site, and tried installing them on the Win 2k system. After following directions carefully, the installation freezes up after detecting the 1284 hardware. I rebooted and tried that process all over again. This time I turn my printer on and it doesn't detect a new printer. I tried uninstalling the drivers, but that did not help. Any suggestions would be great. Thanks.

does the printer have its own IP address, if so there should be no problem, just install the new drivers for the HP P1000, and find the printer on your network.
From what I've read if you have any other operating system as the host for your printer, then you need to set the xp machine as your host, not sure why. Maybe a lot of work depending on how big your system is. If not and you have time, try setting it up on the XP machine. I have the P1000 and after installing the latest drivers XP picked it up within seconds.
