Go to the site below...

Broadband Tweaks

Do your research and adjust what you see fit. This is not a fix all but a tool.

I found this tweak that really improved my browsing abilities and I have a dsl connection.

XP browsing speed up tweak
when you connect to a web site your computer sends information back and forth, this is obvious. Some of this information deals with resolving the site name to an IP address, the stuff that tcp/ip really deals with, not words. This is DNS information and is used so that you will not need to ask for the site location each and every time you visit the site. Although WinXP and win2000 has a pretty efficient DNS cache, you can increase its overall performance by increasing its size.

You can do this with the registry entries below:

************begin copy and paste***********
Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE]
"CacheHashTableBucketSize"=dword:00000001
"CacheHashTableSize"=dword:00000180
"MaxCacheEntryTtlLimit"=dword:0000fa00
"MaxSOACacheEntryTtlLimit"=dword:0000012d

************end copy and paste***********

make a new text file and rename it to dnscache.reg. The copy and paste the above into it and save it. Then merge it into the registry.

I have DSL through MSN, as a matter of fact I just recieved their newest modem. This one has a wide variety of different features including some different settings that you can tweak. It's completely different from the original one I recieved from them when I first signed up over a year ago. Anyways, I have explored this modem completely 100% even with the help of an MSN Tech and I have not found a way to "speed up" your DSL connection. At least not by tweaking the modem. If you find out a way to do this please share your results.

Oh, and just a small piece of advice....you probably should have put this query under "hardware" rather than XP's section. Just a suggestion.

This is not a broadband tweak but a nice attraction tweak. This will remove the shortcut arrows from your desktop icons and make your desktop more attractive.

1. Start regedit.
2. Navigate to HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\lnkfile
3. Delete the IsShortcut registry value.

The lnkfile is a L and not a I, so when you are looking look under L as l.

Heres another one I love! I was sick of getting the connection icon when I sign on to my dsl account. You dont have that problem with a constant connection such as roadrunner but a account where you sign in with name and password gives you the connection balloon that you have to close out. Well this one done away with that and you dont have to close that balloon out all the time.

Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Advanced]
"EnableBalloonTips"=dword:00000000
