hi there I downloaded a tool called LADS (it's function is to find hidden additional data streams) and I need to use the command prompt to use it but I'm not sure how. It says the directory it's in should be accessed through the directory it's in. When I go to Start>Run and then type cmd the screen I get says C:\> but if I try to type (for instance) My Documents I just get the error message 'not a known executable or batch file. How do I access my files and folders using the command prompt so I can check out this programme.

There are several commands for command prompt, for example in your situation you have to change the folder for this the command is cd, from c:\> type cd and folder name, eg
C:\>cd \my documents
Note that \ represents root folder

Hi there Iftikhar I tried C:\>cd \My Documents and also C:\>cd \my documents but all I got was the message cannot find the path specified. Any idea what I might be doing wrong?
Thanks for replying.

I believe the path under XP is something like: c:>cd\Documents and Settings\Users\***Your User Name***\My Documents.
You can't type just cd\ My Documents.

1) Download CmdHere.exe from here. When you right click a file or folder, you will get a command prompt at the appropriate directory. It should make your life easier.
2) Paths that include spaces sometimes need to be enclosed in quotation marks.
3) Run help from the command prompt for help on commands.

Hey thanks a lot guys for replying! I downloaded cmdHere and that's a cool tool. Thanks cyberslug. Lol it's just a shame that I can't quite understand how to use the LADS program now! I'm sure I'll figure it out....
Thanks again everyone!
