i did the XP readiness test and it said i need to upgrade my BIOS. I downloaded the lastest one from AOpen. The zip file included an .exe and .BIN file. I used the .exe file and restarted assuming this will upgrade my BIOS but it didn't. I still have the same problem when i ran the test again and my comp would continue to freeze. Someone please help me out here.
you have to copy those to a bootdisk, then from dos at a: type flash.exe xxxx.bin and press enter, where flash.exe is the flash filename, and xxxx.bin is the new bios file. when prompted to save your current bios choose yes and save it as oldbios.bin, then if you need to you can flash back to it. and don't interupt the flash in any way, as it can/will make your pc unbootable. you can get an image to create a basic bootdisk at http://www.geniussystems.net/files/drdflash.exe double click drdflash.exe ,and have a blank floppy in your a: drive, then copy the files to it,then restart. you have to have your floppy a: drive set as first in boot sequence, in bios setup. on some computers you need to- after flashing, enter bios setup and choose save and exit.
