What is the exact procedure to uninstall and reinstall the latest version of Internet Explorer?

First, my computer would not let me uninstall my version of Internet Explorer. It let me revert to a previous version or to "repair" my current version. However, it would not let me uninstall Internet explorer.

Next, what is the exact url for the latest version of Internet Explorer. When I tried to install the latest version (that I was able to identify), my computer gave me the error message that a newer version was on my computer.

I need to uninstall and reinstall IE because my Yahoo e-mail account does not act correctly under IE -- whereas it does function correctly with Netscape Navigator.

Not being able to use Yahoo e-mail with Internet Explorer is a new development. If possible, I would like to figure out how to use Yahoo e-mail with IE.

Thanks,

MarvR

Hi MarvR,

[93513] IE / Yahoo Problem
I saw your previous post, and searched on an answer, but didn't find one. It does seem that there may be a problem with security if you use IE with a Yahoo mail-account because the info is stored in a cookie. You could try deleting the cookies via Internet Options (General Tab).

IE can be uninstalled via
ControlPanel>Add/Remove Programs
On the left, select 'Windows Components' and then scroll the list for 'Internet Explorer' and un-check it. Apply to uninstall it. (reinstall via same procedure)

The latest version:
Internet Explorer 6 SP1 (Microsoft)

Do you regularly do a WindowsUpdate from the Microsoft website ?

Uninstalling IE is a laborious job. There are a few sites on the net that tell you how to do it. I haven't tried it so I can't comment, but

Try this IE repair first to see if it works.

Quit all programs that are running.

Click Start, and then click Run.

Type regsvr32 urlmon.dll, and then click OK.
When you receive the "DllRegisterServer in urlmon.dll succeeded" message, click OK.

If this does not resolve the problem, repeat steps 2 through 4 for each of the following files (in step 3, replace Urlmon.dll with each of the file names below):

Shdocvw.dll
Msjava.dll
Actxprxy.dll
Oleaut32.dll
Mshtml.dll
Browseui.dll
Shell32.dll

Resart your computer.

Please post if this works

Of course I didn't mind. But it works for me--with a redirect and a bit of a search on Elder Geek page. :-)
