I recently bought this Dell, and have been using my laptop for everything for the past few months. Alot of the files I need are on that laptop, but the laptop does not have a burner or floppy drive. How do I connect the laptop (windows xp pro) and the desktop (windows xp home) to transfer the files? They both have Ethernet connections, and what I use for the internet is a DSL modem. Please help, thanks.

Start, programs, accessories, system tools, files and settings transfer wizard.
On the first popup window you see CONNECTING YOUR COMPUTERS. Read it.

Ok still it's not working....i go to that files and settings transfer wizard. I connect the Dell and Laptop with the RJ45 cable. Follow the procedures but when the laptop gets to the screen regarding where are the files and settings, all the selections are greyed out (direct cable/a drive/small networking) except for the Other option. On the Dell they are all working. I tried putting the folder i want to transfer in the Other portion and that didnt work (wasn't expecting it to). I chose on the first few screens, the dell as new computer laptop as old computer, and said i don't need a wizard disc i have already colllected the files and settings on my old computer. I did it the other way by putting my xp home cd in the laptop and using the wizard there (though it's the same exact thing), and tried loading all the settings into that file but it said could not load settings, too large. So what am i doing wrong and is there an easier way to do this?

I know this is old fashioned, but, since it's a one time affair, why not e-mail all the files to yourself and refile them.
