hi i bought a used computer claimed p4 1.7Ghz. I checked the temperature in BIOS and its 72 degrees . At boot time CPU clock is shown as 1.7Ghz, in BIOS CPU option it shows up as 800Mhz and I can't change it.

How can I tell if they system is overclocked?

PS: the system freezes some times, I have tested and replaced bad RAM, only next guess is overclocked cpu.

Hi, Since you haven't gotten any responses here, try the cpu overclocking forum on the left hand side of page. (If you haven't already) Bluejay
