Hi there, I have a problem with my USB, I am using it, I got many assignments on that. But suddenly, today, when I pluged it to my laptop, it required me to format. I said what the hell???I have many things which are very important, I can format the USB! So could you guys tell me how to take all of my data out???I dont need the USB, just the data.

You do not format USB!
Maybe if you sat back and took a few deep breaths and reword your problem...we might be able to help you out!
what kind of drive is it...ie.
A usb connected external harddrive???
or a USB flash/thumb drive???In The Matters Of Style,

It is a USB flash, 1G, black, Pretec Brand.
Thanks for your advise, I will not format it untill I get a good advises. I w try to relax!

I check in computer management, then Disk management, the computer did recognised the USB with health status, Partition layout, and Basic type, but there is a blank on File system tab. (I think that it should be "Fat" or something like that). I have tried some recovery flash software, but it is not work.

Sometimes windows xp just will not read the flash drives. There are various reasons for this....(biggest cause)...yanking out the drive without first disconnecting the drive by using the "safe to remove" program built into XP...although it is said that this can be done: it is not the proper way and can cause the loss of data and failure of the drive.
Safely remove all other USB devices from your computer.
leave the drive in the USB and shut down your system...don't just reboot it....after a complete shut down with the usb drive in place , restart the computer and see if it will be recognized in my computer after start up!If it does get recognized then I suggest that you remove all the data and then reformat the drive. If it was damaged then it is possible to repair it with a new format.
If the drive is still not recognised then I would look at trying it in another computer for verification of a bad drive or bad USB port.

Since you have used some kind of flash recovery software....it is possible that you have just lost all your data by wiping the drive clean with the utillity.

I tried with other computers, but all of them required to format the USB.I have just thought about the damages of virus, as my computer got some signals of virus, but I use bitdeffender and it blocked those virus already.
The other thing I am thinking about is use other System as Linux, but I am not sure, I really need more information from you guys. Thanks for making ideas.

No, it is not wiping all of my data, because those type of recovery software even cant recognise my USB, it only can recognise other devices. So that I removed all of those softwares from my computer. I have tried some comands in "Run" on Start menu to rename the system file of USB, but it is impossible.

You were able to see the flash drive in disc management.
Other computers also report the drive is unformatted.I tend to believe that you have lost any information on the drive. You might contact Pretect and see what their support suggests you try...but I doubt if it would be any different.
Good luck!

Thanks for your helps, I hope to hear more information from you guys, I am trying to do whatever to get the data because it take me nearly one month do creat those data. I was so stupid for not saving it to other sources.

Not so much a problem of using one for storage, but knowing how to correctly use it....
I've used a couple of mine for temporary storage without problems... I'd bet you thought of it as some kind of external hard drive and possibly tried formatting it and thus ruining it.. (or "not helping" it at all).Is it one of those problematic ones with that U-3 technology?
