I have XP Pro and have LAN. I want to share my files with other users that use the lan. How can they access these files without entering a password ? In Windows 98 it was very simple and I had no problems. Now I gave read only permissions to everyone but it doesn't seems to work.

It is a good idea to turn off simple file sharing. You can do this by going in to Tools then folder options in an explorer window. Then go to the view tab and uncheck the box right at the bottom which says turn off simple file sharing.
You'll now have more options to play around in in the sharing and secuity settings

If you want to share your drive just open My computer then right click on your drive click on Sharing and Security, then go to Sharing tab check Share this folder on the network and uncheck Allow network users to change my file. But if you just want to share a specific folder right click on the folder you want to share click on Sharing and Security... click sharing tab... check Share this folder on the network and uncheck Allow network users to change my file.

What I did was on the folder to be shared, I clicked the Permission button in the Shared tab. Added the Everyone account and set for read only.
