Replace the CD-ROM drive first then look at your repair options. Is your "restore" disk a full install disk or does it simply perform a recovery using files on a second (possibly hidden) partition on your harddrive?

Sorry but without a working CDROM drive you will not be able to repair the current installation. If you have files/data that you wish to save you may be able to take your harddrive and slave it into another system to recover the files, but you cannot repair the operating system that way.

Watch the first screen(s) during a boot up. If you get something saying press a certain keyboard key for a system restore/Repair, try that. There is usually a hidden partition on the hard drive that has a recovery image.

FWIW to XP users: When you click on the 'Command Prompt' you are just causing the 'Command prompt' to be displayed. This prompt gives you access to NTVDM.EXE, the 'NT Virtual DOS Manager'.
