Reply: (edit)Try option 2 and at the recovery console it will ask where the install of Windows is, after finding the install it will take you to line command where you type HELP and press enter to get list of valid commands. Typing the command followed by /? will list parameters.

Reply: (edit)ok i think what happened is that your boot sector is gone, i am pretty sure that is what is looked for when checking for installation of windows. what i would try fist is going into the recovery console, it should come up with a prompt and you can just type "fixboot" and it would repair your boot sector, i think. then restart. it might boot to windows, or show the previous installation if it is there. if this doesn't work then you will have to do a clean install or copy the system files directly. clean install: if you have any info on the drive i suggest getting another hdd (maybe borrowing one or something) and installing the 'borrowed' hdd as master the other as slave and installing xp on the 'borrowed' hdd. then transfer files, switch hard drives, install on your hdd, then transfer the files again. copying files: http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;307545 or http://miscmail.home.mchsi.com/xpfix/xp.htm hope this helps
