OS: XP Pro SP1
CPU/Ram: AMD Duron-800 mhz / 256mb

Trying to rename "c:\windows\system32\copy of hal.dll to c:\windows\system32\hal.dll" in recovery console,keepson saying incorrect parameters. Cood someone PLEASE tell me the correct syntax.

Try using quotes...

copy "c:\windows\system32\copy of hal.dll" c:\windows\system32\hal.dll

If that doesn't work, try:

copy c:\windows\system32\"copy of hal.dll" c:\windows\system32\hal.dll

Spaces sometimes cause problems that can be overcome by using quotes.

Am back into XP. The syntax still won't work so i seen on some website to use "bootcfg /rebuild", did it & it worked. Thanks for the help anyway Kevin

Hi Grimples.

The reason why the syntax didn't work is because you had the incorrect information. Please see Recovery Console Commands HERE.

As an FYI, the use of bootcfg command in the Recovery Console is fully described in this MSKB-291980 Article
