How do I release an IP address from Linksys WPC11 Wireless laptop pcmcia network card. I have tried to use ipconfig /release and the ip address remains. Then I try to renew and I get an error stating that it could not connect with dhcp server (which is my d-link wireless router). Is there a third party software out there that can remove the ip address and allow it to finally get one from the router and allow the laptop to see my network? Thanks

If you're unable the get an IP from your DHCP server, then releasing your IP isn't going to help - try repairing your connections (right-click your connection under networking, then go to properties | repair) - you will likely get an "IP address was unable to be renewed" error (or something similar).

Are you sure that you have your WEP set up correctly? Try disabling that (on both the router and the laptop) and see if you can connect.
Also, make sure 'MAC Filtering' is disabled on the router (if you want it on, look in your router's manual for setup instructions).
Make sure you have you have your wireless connection set up correctly in Windows. You will likely be able to find setup instructions in the manual that came with your wireless NIC (or your laptop, if the W-NIC is integrated).
Finally, you might need to uninstall SP2 (if you have it) - there have been reports of people (myself included) simply not being able to get a computer on their wireless network no matter what they do (and trust me, I did *everything* - a good day wasted... :| ).
Now try releasing/renewing your IP address ;P

Reply if none of that helps.

Also make sure you don't have two things trying to be DHCP server. I made that mistake when first setting up my network.

Like BlueRaja said above, turn off WEP and any other security features. You can try rebooting the router too. Do you have the TCP/IP properties set correctly to obtain the IP address automatically in the laptop?

Also you can try D-Link's website. I found some good help there. And DSLReports.com has both a wireless networking forum and a D-Lnk forum.

Oh yeah, if you have the Super G, turn it off and see if that helps.

My laptop has SP 2 and it did not create any problems for the wireless card or networking. It worked like a charm immediately.

Also make sure your router is configured properly. Open IE (doesn't matter if you're actually connected) and type 192.168.1.1 in the address bar. That should bring up a screen that asks for user name and password. Leave user name blank and type 'admin' (without quotes) in the password box.

Be sure your settings are what Linksys tells you to make them. Be sure you're using PPPoE and that your name and password are correct. Re-type them in anyway. Save the settings and go to Status. You should be able to connect unless SP2 has changed things. Not familiar with SP2 and staying away from it for the time being.
