How do you re-format a Windows-based laptop harddrive before installing a new OS (used to be: XP -- will now be: Windows 7 Home Premium) Thank you!
You cannot format the OS partition while Windows is running. The easiest way to format the drive is to boot from the Windows 7 DVD. Early in the process you will be given an opportunity to format the drive. Be certain that you have a backup of all important data before proceeding as everything will be lost after the format.
