Reply: Is it a DVD Rom? CD-Rom only will handle the format of CD's. If you do have a DVD/CD Rom it helps to have the proper software to interact with the format of the DVD. My guess is if your computer came with the DVD/CD Rom you may have software pre-installed. Tim

Reply: DVD laser beam is much thinner than a CD ROM laser beam. I'm told it's a different colour also. DVD's will not be read by a CD drive.

Reply: You want to get a 8X minimum DVD-ROM. It should say something like 8x32x, that means it reads DVDs at 8X and CDs at 32X. Like a 16X40X can read DVD's at 16X and CDs at 40X As far as I know, 24X DVD-ROM is a fastest youll get. 16X is great, 8X is good, wouldnt go below that unless its a good price

Reply: Actually I would resist going below 12X rather than 8X. They are cheap anyway. The higher the speed the better and more satisfactory performance you will get. Also make sure you have DMA enabled when you install it in your PC. ___________________________________________ ☺ When everything else fails, read the instructions.
