hello all, i've recenly setup a fresh copy of winXP on a machine, updated everything from windows update, and have all the drivers in place. Unfortunately windows update found the wrong driver for my on-board soundcard and now i can't remove it properly because everytime i do and restart my computer, xp automatically reinstalls the same wrong driver on again! Unfortunately i've made the mistake of disabling system restore so theres no way to rollback the driver that way.. is there anyway i coud remove that incorrect driver from windows?? Thanks
Go here and get DVMGR.BAT and run it. select view-show hidden devices in the device manager and remove all the unused devices. They will be in a ghost-grey.

I don't think the above suggestions are going to help and I'm not sure this will either. But the drivers are stored in the c:\windows\inf folder. If you can find the drivers in that folder and delete them, I think that should prevent windows from reinstalling them. The trick is finding the correct drivers.
Do yourself a favor BACKUP!
