It seems that windows will only encrypt folders if you password protect your logon too and if you have indexing on, the documents will be there in xml too unless you deslect them. I find it much easier to remove built in zip support, install winzip and password zip archives

Yes, there is if your Windows xp file system is NTFS. Here's how to do it:
Start->My Computer->Folder Options on the Tools menu->click View->select the Use Simple File Sharing check box->OK
Now right-click a desired folder->select Sharing and Security->check Make this Folder private and follow the instructions and enter necessary infomation.

One more thing:
Before making your personal folders private, you should assign a password to your user account. If you don't assign a password to your user account, anyone will be able to log on to your account and view the contents of your personal folders even if you make the folders private.
