Hi folks,
This box has a 40G HD installed. 10G has been partitioned as Drive-C with WinXP running on it and the remaining capacty has not been touched.
Now I intend to create another 10G partition for storage. Please advise what will be the easiest way to do the job. Can I do it with WinXP. If NO, what FOSS software can do the job, Parted/Mondo/etc.
TIA

PartEd doesn't support NTFS/XP
Partition Magic is by far the best. not free tho.

You don't need a third party utility to partition and format the remaining space.
Right Click My Computer, Manage, Disk Management. You can then create a new partition (or partitions) in the unpartitioned and format the remaining space as you wish.

ooops, u r right, Jennifer :-)
i skipped this bit in the post as it's pretty unusual.
of course you can use the disc manager as described to assign new partitions to the remaining unused 30 GB space.

Yep, you needn't additional software in order to work with nonbootable partitions, however to resize or change boot partition setting you need the software like Partition Magic or Disk Director

Hi Jennifer SUMN,
Yes, you are right.
I got a new extended logical partition of 10G created out of 28G on the remaining space. Rebooted WinXP. The new logical drive/partition could not be seen because not yet formatted.
Please advise how to format it as FAT32. TIA

Right click on the drive. Format. Select the format desired by clicking on the drop-down arrow.

Hi Jennifer SUMN and folks,
No format option on the drop list. I have to select "New Partition Wizard" to continue then "format option' was there.
Now I have another partition/drive created and formatted as NTFS only on WinXP, no third party software required.
Lot of tks for your advice.
