Here's som help on the physical operation of removing and reinstalling the HDD.

http://www.fonerbooks.com/laptop_1.htm

Is the HDD still working even with problems? If so you can save your personal info & programs using an external HDD or copy things to CD-R.

You do have your Restore CD/DVDs right?

There is nothing to learn from someone who already agrees with you.

you should get the model number of your dell laptop, then go to the Dell website and get the manual for it.
The manual will give you step by step instructions on removing and replacing your hard drive.

Then you may have to go into the bios to set your laptop to boot from cdrom first so you can install your operating system again using your xp install disc.

Some HELP in posting on Computing.net plus free progs and instructions Cheers
