If there is no option to boot to a USB device then you can't do it.

Did you scroll though all the possible options? Select first or second boot device option then scroll the list using Pg up/dn or Up/dn arrows.

It isn't that simple. What is the exact model of your Motherboard? If you don't know download SIW.exe and use it to find out. Find SIW below. Download the standalone version.

If no usb (be sure USB is enabled in other part of bios) then see ZIP.

Otherwise see mfg site for update.

If none then you can't unless you connect it to the IDE channel. (not worth the effort)

"Best Practices", Event viewer, host file, perfmon, are in my top 10

And unless you're absolutely sure about the correct latest version that will work with your motherboard, and you're familiar with how to flash the system (nothing personal, but I have some concerns on that one), then you'll make your motherboard a doorstop in no time flat. If it's a must thing to make your system bootable from USB, then it would be worth the effort. Otherwise, it's not worth the risk...

Anyone who flashes anything without it being connected to a UPS doesn't understand the risks. But than a majority of IT do that on a regular basis don't they? Especially when you review posted recommendations. Says a lot I think.

I kind of doubt a BIOS update will even help. Waiting for the OP to reply.

To correct my post.

Consider a bios update ONLY if it addresses that EXACT issue and as above you understand risks.

Perhaps it would be best if the OP explained why he/she needs to make it USB-bootable. (so some alternate strategies could also be suggested...)

huh, well I thought that I liked where this was going cause I have a 16Gig usb flash drive that I would like to learn to either put the os onto or get the usb drive to load acronis (2nd choice more preferable) instead of having to use a disk/thumbdrive combo to get my image loaded onto hard drive...

The bottom line is that if your BIOS doesn't have an option to boot from a USB device then you can't do it. I doubt an updated BIOS would offer that option but you can look at any updates. The update usually has accompanying text stating what the update fixed or enhanced.

I did ask you in #1 what MBoard you had. I was going to try to see if that option was available.
