It's quite easy, and there are lots of programs out there... Casper, Norton ghost... someof them are even freeware. I use a program called SAVEPART. It's a freeware program that operates under DOS, (my preferance). But others will operate under XP.
What ever program you use, make sure it is capable of copying 'occupied sectors only'. This will allow you to make an extremely compressed image that you will be able to use on any partition of the right size and not just the EXACT same partition.

You don't have to make an image file. You can do an exact copy with nero, but if it's copywrited, it might not work.
