Just bought an OEM Version of Windows XP Home. I did not come with a start up floppy. Do I in fact need one before I install it, and how do I make? Any help would do. Thanks
go to my computer, right click on your floppy drive, select format, in the new window you'll be able to select make ms dos startup disk

Although you can start computer with a winME startup disk you cannot use it to run setup from WIN XP disk because it will not setup under DOS, also, if WIN XP is running on an NTFS formatted drive partition then the WinME startup disk will not help you to sort out any problems within the XP file system because DOS does not recognise NTFS, this is why it is best to always format your drives to FAT32 to avoid confusion and to be able to manipulate files etc by the use of DOS.
Summary: By making a Windows xp startup disk and inserting it into drive A and restarting my computer will that take me to real dos mode or VIRTUAL DOS? how do I get to real dos mod? ...
