Specs: Windows XP, Intel Atom/1GB RAM
Hi, I'm trying to make a bootable USB drive with CDROM support so I can reload a Dell Mini 1010. Not having much luck. I've tried using Norvicorps WintoFlash and copying the XP install CD on to the USB device but it creates hal.dll errors and ultimately will now allow XP to boot from the hard drive. (Although you can run XP as long as you are booting from the flash drive). Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Also could use a bartsPE to usb and run it's installer over networked cd shared drive.

Could pxe or gpxe to some install.

Other networkboot disks could allow a windows share to then start install.

What is the normal way to restore the thing? Can you simply ask someone to borrow their usb cd drive?

Why did it take me over a year to phone in a problem to ATT?

Hey thanks for the replies I (we) all appreciate it. It's the folks like you legitimize the existence of the internet. I had already tried what had been suggested so far without success. I did finally reload the mini but was unable to use the USB drive to do it. I bought a SATA/IDE to USB adapter kit ($9.00 on eBay) which allowed me to use a loose CDROM drive to boot to an XP disc and then reload it. I had just recently used a USB flash drive to reload an ASUS Surf 4G using FlashBoot software. It installed a FAT32 partition with the setup files for WinXP and then allowed the XP setup (finishing up with NTFS after all was said and done), that worked well. The Dell Mini 1010 however did not support LBA or CHS mode so the FlashBoot did not work on it. (I would have bought FlashBoot had it reloaded both netbooks.) I'd still really like to find a simple program that would format the USB, make the USB bootable AND provide generic CD/DVDROM support. I haven't found anything like that yet. Thanks again for the help and info!
