How can I make a folder private on my home PC that the rest of my family can't open? The option is there under properties/security but is grayed out. I know I can password protect individual word documents but I want to do the file as a whole?
Encrypt it. If you have winzip there is an encryption option. If not there are other encryption programs available.
A second choice is, burn the folder to a CD or move it to a thumb drive and delete it from the computer.
The real problem is, that it's not a personal computer, it's a family computer, since everyone uses it. The ideal situation is to have your own PC where no one else can login. If you have the money, I suggest that you do that.
download magic folders and install. be sure tio rmember password. The golder you create is totally invisible NOT hidden but invisible. Put all yu r sub folders under it and there invisible as well. It is very good program you have to start it and select the folders you want invisible and when you close magic folders there gone. when you log in magic folders there back. It keeps wanting yuou to register but it still works fine after the 30 days. It just keeps prompting u to register.
