How do I lock down XP so no one can install anything! ?? I want it so only computer administrator, Myself< can allow any installations of any kind.

I have other users on my computer that get on the net "which I don't mind" but then crap keeps gettin installed in program files and some even in windows and other junk starts appearing in in the C: drive too.
Mostly in program files.

How do I set up computer policies so that no one "but administrator" can install anything from the internet? or any other programs for that matter.

Are there any settings to keep this junk from downloading? I know they aren't doing it on purpose but if they want to use my pc then not being able to install anything will be one of the concquences.

Lock the PC in a locked room. You can't prevent anyone from downloading anything. You can put everyone else on Guest Account. The guest account is intended for use by someone who has no user account on the computer. There is no password for the guest account, so the user can log on quickly to check e-mail or browse the Internet. A user logged on to the guest account:

* Cannot install software or hardware, but can access applications that have already been installed on the computer.

* Cannot change the guest account type.

* Can change the guest account picture.

Make everyone an Administrator.

go to "Start" "Run" and type: gpedit.msc

Adjust all the the settings you like there. If that one seems to confusing. I use the program below at work. We have 9 users on the computer and I block a whole heck of stuff. best thing is each user has different stuff they can do.

Probably the best security software you can have.

I have tried guest account b4 and still dang ol ie will install crap even if the people using it doesn't notice. I guess it's time to fix up a browsing computer for others to use so they will leave mine alone.

I mean how on earth do I get stupid my search in add remove programs, Get this a Smiley face icon labeled Miscellaneous in my control panel I can't seem to get rid of that has home page of here http://sourceforge.net/projects/mediaxw

or crap like GustoSoft, Astrosell, ComPlus Applications, FileSubmit, MediaXW, Xing and other wierd folders poping up in program files on c drive? When people are using a guest account that is.
