I need to install xp to a laptop that dosent support usb boot, and has no internal cd rom, or floppy. It does however support network boot, but I have no win server version to install from network. Can I make a bootable dos/NT partition that will find usb cdrom via external ide to usb encloser and transfer disk internal to laptop? laptop is dell c610
2 ghz intel m
512 ram
80 gig hdd
usb 24x cdrom (not bootable via bios)
no floppy
no usb boot supportIn other words how can I make partition 1 win boot disk to get to usb cdrom, then install xp from cd to partition 2?
Wow, First link worked like a charm! My wife will be thrilled with her new lap top. Thank you for your help. Merry christmas
Side note to this install method. I needed to create 2 partitions to hdd. One 2gig fat 32, and rest of disk blank to go ntfs during install.
Nice work, thanks for the extra info. Merry Xmas.
