When you go in to the Windows XP installer, after you accept the license agreement, does it show the USB hard drive on the list?

I've never considered booting from my USB drive, I think it's faster to just use my IDE drives and save my USB for storage and backup.

Look in your BIOS and make sure it shows your USB drive as one of the bootable devices.

I do not think that USB hard drive boot support's NT based O/S only DOS based O/S
