hi guys, thanks for help on previous posts. Got a problem here, i have two partition on my hard disk c: about 30 Gb and recently created d: about 10 Gb. I have xp pro on c drive. Please guide me to install xp home on d:. I am not able to do it. Every help is really appreciated. thanks

You can't install Home from within XP pro which is what I suspect you are trying.
Set you bios to boot the cd and install Home to d: that way.
Then you will end up with a multiboot of both.

Frankly, I don't understand why you would want to do this I CAN understand why one might want something like wiblows98 and XP, or Linux and XP, but why two versions of xp?

its one way of learning the differences between home and pro. one can be configured just for games and the other something else. plenty of reasons.

thanks wanderer, thats what excatly i was trying to do. Now the problem is that my pc do not recognise cd rom in it and gives 'secondary drive 0 missing'error at start up, ihave tried all sort if things but did not work, So i am using external cd rw, Can i install using external drive or by any other means. thanks

You change the boot order. this is where you have 1st, 2nd etc boot order. sounds like you changed stuff in the general tab that has the drives and floppy listed.
Alternately you can get [bootdisk.com] a boot diskette with cdrom support and boot up that way. Then go to the cdrom drive letter and the i386 folder. Type winnt, hit enter and install will start

You ought to get that problem resolved before installing anything!
You can avoid many of these Windows problems with Linux. Linspire eases the transition for new users
