how to host ftp

I wasn't sure where to post this but is it possible to host a ftp server through a local area connction ? and if so how would one do so ? it would be great if someone could help me with this

If it is local area network the ftp site will be viewed only by network computers, else a actual internet connection is required to make a actual ftp site to be viewed by whole world.
well make sure iis server components are installed in add remove programs-> windows components. then make sure iis service is running for that select control panel> admin tools>services>services & app> start iis,ftp service .
Then a directory will be created at c:\inetpub\ftproot. This is where you can store files advance features are available at services & app>iis>ftp sites >default ftp site
