how to hook up 2 monitors?

got a new dell P4 with xp home. bought a dvi/vga adapter, plugged second monitor in, no image (monitor works). in cp/display/advanced no options point to the dvi connector....it seems that the VGA primary display is in both the primary and secondary boxes....thanks

First thing you wanna do is open the display properties under the settings tab click identify, you should see #'s 1 and 2 flash on the respective monitors.
Once you see that all you need to do is select display #2 and check the "extend my windows desktop onto this monitor" box
