In order to get an 'answer' you need to say what kind of connection/router/ISP etc.

If at first you don't succeed, you're about average.

You should check with your ISP.

Dynamic IP with dialup is the norm.

Ask your ISP.

One way to hide your IP is to use firewall software ... there are several you can download and install for free.

do a google search for free firewall.

Another way to hide your IP is with a hardware firewall .. such as a router. Since you are on dialup this would not be practical.

best of luck Frank :

You can not totally hide your IP. It is a fundamental id that every computer needs in order to access the web.

You can try a router as suggested by ccfrank but it does not mean you are 100% invisible. I still don't know why hiding your IP is so important to you if you are on a dial-up connection. You probably won't be online more than 5% of the time anyway & dial-up user hardly ever gets compromised by IP vulnerability. The risk is several time greater for broadband users.

Well..this pc is connected to a server. everytime i turn on my computer i need to use my id and pwd to dial to connect with the remote server of my university. i actually do not know if i can call it dial up. every student got own user id and pwd with fixed ip address. my pc is connected 24/7 and hence i was thinking to hide my ip.

Thank you for your patience.

That does not sound like a dialup to me.
You are simply required to log in using your assigned credentials. A software firewall will probably be an effective measure but if you want to add a layer you MAY be able to put a router between your PC and the uni network.
You would have to configure the router with your log-in credentials and it may not work since in many cases the uni network security will detect the router anyway and block it's use.

I used to have a signature but it disappeared and I just couldn't be bothered writing another so please feel free to ingore this.

This actually sounds to me like a LAN (local network) rather than the Internet - though that may be available via the net server.

A fixed IP is not usual in these cases, but could be a security factor; it should be a subnet address, and should be protected by the network firewall.

A firewall sits between the local net and the Internet = I don't think you could put one between the PC and the Server on the local net.

ugh.. the unhelpfulness provided..

here: Hide IP Platinum 2.82

this program uses different IP numbers when ur online surfing the web, not playing online games though i dont think..

or u can try: A-Mac Address Change 4.5

this program changes ur MAC adress of ur computer. this will permanently change ur IP number (guaranteed change of IP number) but its more risky, and if u did it, ud have to turn off everything and turn everything back on. (i dunno about dial up) but when i wanna use this, i use it to unban myself from chatrooms, or game servers or whatever.. but i have a router though.. so when i perform this, i would have to turn off the router and my computer and turn them all back on.. anyways, hope i helped.

Do you need the programs? leave me a message.

Just use a proxy server. Every website will see the IP address of the proxy for you. I can't believe no one suggested that. If you want to know how to use a proxy server... google it. I don't feel like explaining.

Given the amount of responses I too am surprised nobody said it, and this appeared to be the only relevant response in my opinion. Furthermore, I'm sure an AOL or Earthlink customer representative would laugh at the customer who decides to "check with your ISP" to figure how to conceal an IP number.

Anyway, unless you are doing something illegal and unethical, or are a underground democracy lover in China should you be concerned with concealing your IP.

Proxy's are useful however if you are blocked from say email or other webpages that your college, hs, or employer may block.
