We have multiple users accessing one PC that's running XP on a domain. When they log on, they are unable to make many modifications, including software installs, or just about anything that modifies data on the drive.
We can get around this by setting up each user in Control panel -> User Accounts, and entering their loginID and domain, then setting them in Administrators. Then, they are able to make all the local modifications they need, and they don't have any administrative rights on the domain.
Does anyone have a suggestion how to get around setting each individual user up on the machine? We'd like to be able to have it so that whenever a user logs in, they are automatically given rights. With the turnover rate and the high number of users on this one machine (up to 50), it would be a mess to maintain a user group.
Actually, we have multiple machines that we do this with, so it would solve a huge problem, since we're going to be migrating to XP and haven'nt figured out this permissions issue. Thanks.

Ok.. here goes this is from memory so you may need to look around abit.
1)right click my computer go to manage
2)On the left look for local security users and groups, expand it then expand the groups.
3)Double click the administrators group, click add.
4)add DOMAIN\domain users to the administrators group. The DOMAIN in caps should be replaced with your domain name the other leave as I typed it.
5)go to the users group, remove DOMAIN\domain users-only after you have sucessfully added them to the administrator group.

Start > Settings > Control Panel > Users & Passwords
Select the user
Click on "Properties
Select "Group Membership" tab
Select "other"
Select "Administrators" from the drop-down menu
