Don't do it with Windows Media Player. WMP is primarily for playing media files, not burning them to disc. It can burn media files to disc, but it's notoriously bad at doing it and often doesn't work properly.

The sensible way to burn anything to CD/DVD is with purpose-made burning software, some of which are free if you don't need all the bells and whistles of the commercial ones: Free burning apps for Windows:

What is the file type? You will probably need to convert the file first, before burning.

There are various, converters, I use Format Factory,

Have you considered a media player, like WDTV?
