how to get rid of computer bugs?

January 5, 2005 at 07:44:58
Specs: windows xp, emachine 533id

I am having a very difficult time with my pc, and hopefully someone can help me with my situation. My pc is running very very slow, and when I try to open any desktop item I get the popup message (windows installing) I have no idea what it is installing, but it freezes up the entire system. When I try to access add/remove programs all I get is 5 items that cannot be removed. My system has shut down twice to my knowledge; on its own, and the following message popped up ( your system has recovered from a serious error). I have no idea what is happening with my pc. Can someone assist me in finding a solution to so that I can resolve this problem? Thank you in advance for your support.

I suggest you back up all your work and re-install Windows XP from scratch!

I need a bit more information. Like for one how much memory you have. What error messages come up to the last letter.
Coz from the research i have done on you machine tells me you can only have a MAX of 256 meg of ram in your computer and so if you haven't upgraded it means you have only 128 meg of ram in your computer and if you're running windows XP on the computer you have no where near enough memory to run XP as well as any other program as you will find that XP needs almost the full 128meg of ram to run the Windows XP.

Anyway get back to me with the all the specs if you have problems finding ingormation on it get back to me and i will help you locate the informayion

good luck

I am currently running windows xp professional.
I just upgraded my emachines 533id to 37 GB of memory. I would like to free up some space but I am unable to because something on my system is not allowing me to utilize the add/remove program. I do have the windows re-install, but must I go to those extremes. I simply want to clean my pc of the bug that has infected it. I greatly appreciate all of the repsonses and I look forward to more support. Thank You.

As i said before 128meg of RAM is no where near enought memory to run XP(maybe try to get another stick of memory maybe) another 128meg should help your cause but don't get any bigger as i don't think your machine will take more than 256 meg in total.

You should try a system restore.

If you go to

Start
All Programs
Accessories
System Tools
System restore

When you are there find a date on the calender that you know your computer was last working and restore your computer to it.

**BEFOE YOU DO THAT JUST BACKUP ANY WORK YOU MIGHT WANT TO KEEP ONTO DISK**

When did all your problems start??

Good luck
