I am currently having space problems on my pc... I need to free space in the c drive because everything by default saves there first. So i just wanted to format the whole c drive and then just re-install everything.. My pc is even running slow! I need help!!!!!!!!:(

Put the Windows XP cd into the try and boot off the CD. This will allow you to re-format the drive and setup thing the way you want it.

Easy:
1) make sure your system boots to the CD-ROM. Check this option in your system's BIOS settings.
2) Put in your XP CD and boot to it.
3) During XP's setup, choose to delete the current partion, make a new partition, format it as NTFS or FAT32 and then let the XP setup continue. Some tips: do a back-up of any important data. XP also has the File & Settings Transfer Wizard. I've found that if you run that, burn the image file it creates to CD (or save it to a zip disk if you have one) then after you reinstall XP re-run the Wizard and it will basically restore all your previous environment settings (like your wallpaper, internet favourites, and so on). Good luck!

If you are using XP, and C drive is the one with windows, you can't formati it from windows or DOS. You will have to boot from XP installation CD (in BIOS, set CD ROM as primary boot device), and once the set up has started, choose to reinstal XP, and if I can recall, you will be asked if you want to format your HDD. The other way to format it is to conetct your HD on some other computer, and formate it there.

It is always good to have boot disks on floppies...just in case. Go to www.bootdisk.com and get it there. It should take up 6 floppies, so have some on hand. If you cant boot from CD, boot from your floppy, and select recovery console from the screen. Then just type format /fs:. The file system parameter lets you choose whether to format with NTFS, Fat32, etc.
Hope it helps.

For win 98, simply go to your MS-Dos prompt change to the A drive and plug in Format C:/s like this. A:\Format C:/s the /s is to make your C drive bootable, which is highly recommended if that is your master drive. If not just put Format C:
