Comment:

Does anyone know how to make an XP account auto-logoff at a specific time of the day dispite if anyones using it at the time or not?

If not any alternitive solutions are also welcome.

Situation.
We have a particular staff member Lets him call him Bob. Bob waits till 5pm (when work finishes) then jumps onto the Windows XP computer as soon as our accounts lady leaves the office The accounts lady has been told to logout of the computer at 5pm when she finishes for this reason but sometimes she forgets to logout of the computer then bob jumps on. Arrrg.

I tried using the "net user" command to change the hours the user is allowed to login but this doesn't auto log them out.

Any suggestions welcome.
Thanks guys

You must download a program called poweroff, it's under GPL license.

Then you can schedule a shutdown or logoff.

I hope this help you.

An advice, never think that you are better than Bob.

Come to me all who you are borried and wasted, and I shall give you rest and peace.

The simplest solution is to tell the accounts lady that she must log of the computer when she leaves. If she still fails do so then a slapped wrist in in order.

If a slapped wrist fails to achieve the desired objective, then there are more severe repercussions available.

Anyone wishing to know what these repercussion might be is free to contact me and I would be glad to acquaint them of the possibilities.

Stuart

Vince, there're a lot of programs like this, but it's the best.

Also you can do a new shortcut to

%windir%\system32\RUNDLL32.exe shell32,SHExitWindowsEx 0

And schedule it whit the scheduled task in the control panel. So you can run it at 5 o'clock.

Best Regards.

You can use scheduled tasks to use the "at" and the "shutdown" commands.

at 20:20 shutdown /L /T 00

This command would log the user of at 8:20 pm.

Hope this helps,
Sandman

Downloaded Poweroff will give it a go shortly

The %windir%\system32\RUNDLL32.exe shell32,SHExitWindowsEx 0

Idea is also very good idea I never thought of that one :)

I'm sure I can take it from here.

An advice, never think that you are better than Bob.
