Hi Andrew,

I aplaud your efforts.

A couple of spelling errors; no big deal.

I think step 5 needs some work.

You lost me with the drive and directory changes.

Most can be avoided by 'hard wiring' commands.

Like this"

ren \windows\system32\drivers\ntfs.sys ntfs.old

copy /b [CD drive]:\i386\ntfs.sys c:\windows\system32\drivers

Keep in mind that many plain vanilla NT setups will be in \winnt ; not \windows.

Bravo!

Only the file NTFS.SY_ is inside i386, which I think is a compacted version.
Also, when I try to boot from the CD, and the "bad HD" is connected, it crashes the CD setup loading. If I disconnect the bad HD, the CD setup goes through with out any problems.
NOTE: I ran the HD manufacture's utility to check the HD and no errors were found.
Any thoughts?

Hi Dinitri,

Yes the ntfs.sy_ is compacted and needs to be expanded.

Thanks, I was able to expand the file.
The problem now is getting the file into the "Bad HD". When I connect the HD to a "Good working" win 2K computer, the computer would never finish the "Windows welcome" screen.

Hi Dimitri,

You probably should start a new thread, since this one is about Joya's site.

Since the bad HD is interfering with a good HD booting, the first thing I would try is booting the good drive alone.

I assume we're talking about XP.

Go into SystemProperties Advanced Startup and see if it's configured to 'look at' other drives.

If not, the problem drive may be really messed up and you may need to put it in an ext USB case to keep it from stopping the boot.

http://www.boyjoy.pwp.blueyonder.co.uk/ntfs.sysFIX.txt

Is it still valid?

Peter.
